Mr. Hawkins earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Montana where he majored in Business and Forestry, and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Forestry from Paul Smith's College.

In addition to timber consulting work, Mr. Hawkins has held various management positions with Tricon Timber, Castle Mountain Corporation, Evans Products Company, Del Conner Lumber, and Container Corporation of America.
He was Vice-President & General Manager of T&L Contractors.
also gained practical logging, forestry, and sawmill experience in various jobs with Anaconda Forest Products Company

, International Paper Company
, and others.
He has managed logging operations producing over 100 loads of logs per day and has been responsible for supplying as many as four sawmills concurrently.
Mr. Hawkins served as an infantry officer with the U.S. Marine Corps.
He has served on the Advisory board of the University of Montana School of Forestry and has been a member of the Society of American Foresters, American Forestry Association, Montana Logging Association, Small Timber Utilization and Management Working Group, Eastside Forest Practices Committee, Meagher County Planning Board, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and U.S. Jaycees.
