, Service Officer
It is my pleasure to spotlight two very special people this issue—Charlie and Jo Fridinger.
...Charlie retired in August 1983 after 34 years of service with the Federal government.Although he spent time with the Post Office and University of Maryland, he ended his service with over 31 years with the Navy.
Jo, a farmer's daughter, worked at Interwoven Mills
for 10 years before she
married in 1954.He
then took her
to Silver Spring where she
learned to go anywhere!
...NARFE welcomed Charlie as a member sometime during 1984 or 1985 when the Chapter was still meeting at the old senior center.
Jo joined as soon as the treasurer (Mr. Young) could be convinced that she
was eligible even though she
hadn't worked for the Government
.Both became Life Members in 1987, and each has held numerous offices and committee chairs.Charlie
held every office in the Federation except Treasurer.
...Charlie served on the Berkeley County Council of Aging (now known as Berkeley Senior Services) and was President for 3 ½ years while the new center was being designed, contracted and built. He
was also the sub-chair for the Senior sector fund raising. For his
received the "Bob Jackson Advocate for Seniors Award" in 2000.
Thank you—Charlie and Jo—for all you do!
