Dr. Charles Edwards, MD
Charles C. Edwards, II, M.D. Medical Director of the Maryland Spine Clinic at Mercy Hospital, received his education at Washington & Lee University, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude and Honors in Engineering. He attended the University of Maryland Medical School where he graduated with AOA honors. Dr. Edwards completed his Orthopedic Surgical Residency at Emory University in Atlanta and received advanced training in the management of adult and pediatric spinal deformity at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Edwards' research interests include the management of nerve compression disorders in the cervical spine and the treatment of major spinal deformities in children and adults. Dr. Edwards brings special expertise in the areas of minimally invasive spine surgery and microscopic techniques. In addition, he has an extensive background in the treatment of both spinal deformity and complex degenerative conditions using state-of-the-art methods. He is a member of the esteemed Spinal Deformity Study Group and is currently the Section Editor for the Scoliosis and Spondylolisthesis sections of The Textbook of Spinal Surgery, 3rd Edition (in press). Dr. Edwards has been the invited presenter of more than 45 scientific studies at national scientific meetings. He is an author of 32 research papers and textbook chapters. Research honors include the Best Clinical Paper at the European Cervical Spine Research Society Meeting. While a resident, Dr. Edwards received the Best Resident Research Award three consecutive years. He was awarded the Resident Research Award by the Georgia Orthopedic Society and the prestigious Clinical Orthopedic Society.
