Charlene Harvilla: Southern Tier
Prior to joining the Quality Improvement Specialist team, Charlene Harvilla served as Director at Grand Care Children's Center and as Director/Teacher of Blessed Sacrament Preschool. She has 25 years of experience working with children in day care, preschool, school age and UPK programs. At present, Charlene is a member of Building Brighter Futures for Broome, and serves on the school readiness committee. She is also a board member of the YWCA of Binghamton. Charlene graduated from Binghamton University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. She also has an Associate's degree from Broome Community College in Early Childhood Education and a Children's Program Administrator Credential from NYSAEYC.

Harvilla will need county approvalCHARLENE HARVILLA, nominee to fill form Charlene Harvilla, 50, of Ferndale Drive, Dickinson, was nominated Thursday to fill Kavulich's unexpired term that ends Dec. 31. Harvilla's nomination still needs the approval of the full Broome County Legislature, which meets Thursday. Harvilla had competition for Kavulich's seat at Thursday's Democratic district committee meeting, which lasted about 15 minutes. The vote was 6-3 for Harvilla. Harvilla is director of the United Methodist Homes' Grand Care Children's Center in Johnson City and former director of the Blessed Sacrament Pre-School program. This is Harvilla's first time seeking public office.She said she hopes to bring a new perspective to the Legislature, adding one issue she wants to address is consolidation of services in the county. She said she does not plan to challenge Kavulich in the November election.
