Cedric Cheung - Principal Consultant, Research & Innovations
...
Cedric is currently the Deputy General Manager at an international company that specializes in the development of the next generations of renewable energy research and environmental technologies. He contributes to this post from his background and experience in research, technology development as well as business development experience in high technology commercialization ventures. He has been actively promoting and building the company in Hong Kong for its China and Asia Pacific operations.
Cedric has been involved in various aspects of high technology research & development works for over 16 years, with a specialization in nanotechnology and new materials development. Within those years, Cedric had engaged in the strategic management of multi-disciplinary commercial research and process development projects for more than 12 of them. Moreover, he has been a scientific and management consultant for over 7 years across various industries in Canada and in Hong Kong. He has worked for multi-national companies (e.g., NXP Semiconductors - formerly Philips Semiconductors) as well as academic institutions (e.g., University of Toronto).
Cedric has long been at the forefront of high technology research and innovations. From fundamental to commercial R&D, Cedric has a proven track record of producing innovative solutions to difficult problems. He has produced electrodeposited cobalt that was featured on the front cover of the Journal of Materials Science Letters (Vol.17 (1998), No.22), an international scientific journal. His most recent works generated one patent for ASM Assembly Automation Ltd. (2005) and another pending review by Philips Semiconductors HK Ltd. (2006), both of which are nanotechnology related. Cedric had co-authored one of the first patents for the production of advanced electrodeposited nano materials (US Patent No.5,433,797), this technology was partly the foundation of a Canadian spin-off company, NanoMetals Corp., which has since evolved and is now an independent nano materials and technologies company (Integran Technologies, Inc.). He had been involved in technology transfers and commercialization of his own technologies as well as developing collaborative business opportunities with enterprises like Exabyte Corp. (US), Spang Power Electronics (US), Krupp AG (Germany), Ontario Power Generation (Canada), etc. In 2006, he had successfully initiated and brought Philips HK into their first nanotechnology project with the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology.
Since he has relocated back to Hong Kong, Cedric had also been involved in the promotion of Hong Kong as a high technology and innovation hub through his tenure with the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation. As the Marketing Manager (Nanotechnology), he was a Key Account Manager for one of the technology clusters the Corporation is building - Precision Engineering, which comprises optoelectronics, energy, environmental and nanotechnology. He had contributed to the technology support infrastructure from a strategic perspective specifically for nanotechnology as well as engaging in business development for the technology cluster, promoting Hong Kong to companies from Hong Kong, China and overseas.
Cedric's connection to Integral has been through his long-term friendships with its founding partners. With friendships spanning over 20 years, Cedric has been connected to the souls behind Integral for a long time. Cedric is a sincere believer of the operating business philosophies and the honorable management principles at Integral; Cedric had, in fact, suggested the name Integral to its founding partners when they had first formed the company some 7 years ago. Cedric not only teaches Integral principles, he practices them. In his current capacity as Deputy General Manager, one of his personal missions as proposed to the Board of Directors is "to build a company that has impeccable organization integrity". And most recently, Cedric has taken on a role at Integral to build a new community for the company in providing continuing education for leaders in senior management positions in their leadership traits development. He is also the founding and contributing editor of the company newsletter, The Compass, which focuses on the things that Integral believes in deeply, which are integrity, honesty and honor.
Cedric has qualifications in Engineering Physics and Materials Engineering, and his finished studies in Enterprise Directorship. He had been one of the Subject Matter Expert on nano materials in the Microenegineered Materials Research Group at the University of Toronto (Canada) and the Subject Matter Expert on new materials development and failure analysis in the Competence Support Center, Asia Pacific at Philips Semiconductors (Hong Kong). Cedric has published about 20 technical papers in various scientific journals and has given presentations at international conferences on nanotechnology research and innovations.
