When Cathy Goldschmidt, RN, came to Porter to teach childbirth education in 1988, she had no idea she would make her career here.
Nearly 19 years on the job, Ms. Goldschmidt
still loves what she
does and believes that education is a valuable tool in keeping people well.
"I think the education classes we provide here at Porter
promote a better outlook on living a healthier and better lifestyle," she
says."We try to provide meaningful health information, awareness about disease processes and how better to prepare for the changes that are going to happen in life."
One of 10 educators who spend their days - and many of their evenings - in the community teaching both groups and individuals on a multitude of health and wellness topics, from the basics of childbirth and the idiosyncrasies of a newborn to coping and living with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, Ms. Goldschmidt
is on the leading edge with what the health system offers the community both in terms of quantity as well as quality.
