This week we are taking the time to shine a light onto one of our own talented staff members: Cathleen Cohen!
We all know Cathy now as the Education Director here at ArtWell, but before her time spent with us, Cathy spent 25 years working as a special education teacher, poet, tutor, teaching artist, and painter.
Cathy's wide range of interests and talents have taken her
on remarkable journeys that continue to serve as sources of inspiration for her
work here at ArtWell
spent time volunteering in Israel holding teacher training sessions and poetry writing workshops among many different communities of people.
Bringing back her
knowledge and experiences from Israel, Cathy
continued to teach in the U.S, using the arts as a vehicle for multicultural education and understanding.
With the creation of the Interfaith Youth Poetry Project in the aftermath of September 11th 2001, Cathy
partnered up with ArtWell
for the first time, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Since then, Cathy
has continued to share her
talent and passion with us here at ArtWell
, through both her
teaching and curriculum development, as well as, in the training of our teaching artists.
A firsthand witness to the transformative power of the arts, Cathy
finds constant inspiration in the talents of her
students, and in their ability to overcome challenges.
Having also pursued a degree in Fine Art, Cathy spends much of her free time painting (abstract watercolor being her preferred medium), as well as, writing her own poetry.
Using the arts to express her
feelings and to reflect upon her
own experiences allows Cathy
to truly practice what she
preaches to her
We could not be happier to have someone as dedicated and gifted as Cathy
to be a part of our team here at ArtWell!
In closing, we wanted to share a poem, written by Cathy
, with all of you.
