WHITTIER - With emotions often running high Tuesday night during a meeting at St. Bruno Catholic School, school Principal Catherine Carvalho and pastor the Rev. Michael Reardon tried to explain why they didn't notify parents that a man stalking Carvalho had been at the school.
Reardon admitted in hindsight it was a mistake not to notify the parents.
"There was no conscious decision not to tell (parents about the stalker) on my part or on Ms. Carvalho's
part," Reardon told the standing room only crowd of about 400 who attended the meeting in the parish hall.

In addition to Carvalho and Reardon, representatives of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Whittier Police Chief Jeff Piper sat on a panel at the front of the hall to answer questions.
spoke at length at the outset of the meeting and answered parents' questions and concerns with comments throughout the meeting.
"Your concern for your children is very evident, and that is good," she
"Your children are blessed.
"I believe we do provide a safe environment for your children," she
said there were "zero threats" to the children and "zero threats that have been made in writing.
Several of the speakers expressed feelings of division, saying they supported Carvalho
and sympathized with her
as the victim of a stalker, and now further victimized by the media attention.
And in a tense moment, a man accused Deardon of deception regarding when he
know about the stalker's actions.

Deardon denied it saying that during the incident the man was referring to he
could not discuss the matter until he
spoke with Carvalho
said another meeting would be scheduled.
Some of them are considering a petition to remove Carvalho
as principal, with the observation that she
probably doesn't belong in an elementary school when she
has a stalker.
