Carolyn HeimanCarolyn Heiman Carolyn Heiman is a woman who has managed to not only balance a career, a family and community involvement, but also one who has managed to do so phenomenally well.As the Times Colonist features editor, Carolyn's accomplishments are legion, including the creation of the GO! section and numerous behind the scene innovations.As one of the few female managers she is a strong voice at the editorial table urging that stories be featured throughout the paper of particular interest to women, girls and other youthful readers.She champions the arts in Victoria through her newsroom leadership.She is a member of the B.C. Press Council which campaigns for free speech and works for the cause of fairness and accuracy in the print media.In addition to being a devoted mother and career woman, Carolyn has given freely of herself to her community through her volunteer work with Girl Guides and various school organizations and events.A caring, committed, and creative leader, Carolyn is an inspiring role model.

Carolyn Heiman - Co-chair, Media RelationsCarolyn is the Features editor of the Victoria Times-Colonist, a position she has held since 2001.As features editor, Carolyn supervises the production and content of a number of sections, including Life, Arts, Go!, Travel, Homes, Driving, Islander, Books, TV Times, and comics and crosswords.In 2003 she was the recipient of a Women of Distinction Award in Media and Public Relations.Carolyn joined the Times-Colonist in 1986, working first as a reporter and then in several editing roles.Prior to that she worked as a reporter for Canadian daily newspapers including the Owen Sound-SunTimes, Kitchener-Waterloo-Record, Regina Leader-Post and the Edmonton Journal.She has also freelanced for Maclean's magazine and the Financial Post.A graduate of Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, where she earned an Applied Arts degree in Journalism, Carolyn served for 7 years on the Board and as a member of the BC Press Council . Carolyn is mother to two children and happily volunteers for a number of Victoria youth and school organizations as both fundraiser and "go-fer"!
