Carol Gildar has combined her love for color, design, and texture to create unique jackets and one of a kind wearable clothes using handpainted silk, fabulous fabric, and interesting texture combinations and embellishments. She is greatly influenced by interpretations of Asian, floral and geometric motifs that can be readily applied to her art and to her original greeting cards.
Carol has won many awards for her watercolor work and has adapted those talents to silk painting and surface design when sewing her jackets and vests.
Carol is a graduate of Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. She is a member of Illinois Artisans, The Fine Line Creative Arts Center and The Needlearts Guild of the North Shore of Chicago. Carol participates in shows throughout the year including the Chicago Botanic Garden Fiber Show.
She grew up in Pennsylvania in a large family, where she discovered her love of sewing from her grandmother. Her parents encouraged her talent and she pursued her creative career in art in New York City for many years before relocating to Illinois. She has traveled extensively and always finds wonderful fabrics and inspirational scenery for painting, whereever she goes. Carol maintains a studio in Illinois. Her creations are in private collections throughout the United States and internationally.
