Carol Anne Conroy

Carol Anne Conroy, President of Mass Literacy, retired from her position on January 24, 2014. In her 15 years heading the non-profit organization, her work has made literacy more accessible to thousands of people across the state. Conroy has a deep understanding of the Massachusetts literacy community and she worked tirelessly to meet their needs.
Conroy joined the Boston Herald in 1999 as Circulation Marketing Manager, and in 2002 she created the Massachusetts Literacy Foundation which is the Boston Herald's non-profit initiative to advance literacy. She then went on to implement the Mass Literacy Champions Awards program which has recognized and supported more than 60 outstanding literacy providers since 2003.
Conroy had a strong vision for the future of the program and steered it into the digital age. She built the Mass Literacy website as a central hub for literacy providers to share important news, resources, events and ideas.
"The goal of Mass Literacy has been to provide a voice and a platform for the vibrant literacy community of educators and providers; a place to share and learn from each other," said Conroy. "It is their passion and commitment that provided the momentum and drive for this initiative and I am proud to have been a part of it."
In addition, Conroy also oversaw the Boston Herald in Education program, which delivers free newspapers to classrooms. Her efforts have ensured that all teachers and students in the Commonwealth can access the Boston Herald no cost.
