Carol Ann Clouston, the Adham Center's part-time Affiliate Professor of Voice since 1996, was born and raised in Newfoundland, Canada.She graduated in 1967 from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, with a B. Mus. in opera and obtained a Diploma in Pedagogy two years later.She had a distinguished career as a singer-actress, playing many lead roles both on stage and TV.Some highlights of her career include playing 'Anne' in the musical comedy version of the famous Canadian novel "Anne of Green Gables" during Canada's Expo '67, an eight-week series for CBC TV featuring her in soprano roles of Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas, and her portrayal of 'Marie' in Color the Flesh the Color of Dust," which won her a "Best Actress" award in the 1971 Canadian Dominion Drama Festival.Cairo audiences knew her as the featured soprano soloist with the Cairo Choral Society from its inception in 1982 until 1990, when she retired from performing.She also teaches private voice /singing lessons. Before joining the Center in 1996, Clouston taught the Voice and Speech courses for eight years in AUC's Performing and Visual Arts Department and she was the voice/speech consultant on many of their productions.She combines the skills acquired during her long successful performing career with her twelve-year practice as a Feldenkrais Practitioner."There's a dire need for credible, articulate and assertive English-speaking Arab voices to present to the world 'the Arab side of things.' I try to provide the students here with the kind of atmosphere and learning experiences conducive to acquiring the self knowledge, confidence, and courage required to 'tell it like it is-loud and clear'," Clouston says.
