Strategy Update
Supporting health research comes naturally to Carlo Fidani. It's in his blood.
"My grandfather was a benevolent man" says Mr. Fidani, Chair and CEO of the Orlando Corporation, one of the oldest and most successful construction and real estate development companies in Canada. "Even in the Depression, when we he didn't have much, he found ways to help people."
His father, Orey Fidani, inherited the generosity gene and "felt that investing in health care was something he could do to help the most people. He passed the character trait along to Carlo, who has taken things to new heights. In 2011, responding to the shortage of doctors in Ontario, Mr. Fidani contributed $10 million toward the University of Toronto's Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex to train more students to become MDs. He has also made major donations to advance cancer and mental health research and treatment.
He supports theCanadian Stem Cell Strategy & Action Plan, "because the promise of stem cells is massive.

Since Canadian racing legend Ron Fellows and partner Carlo Fidani, president of commercial real estate developer Orlando Corporation, purchased the track from Atlanta-based Panoz Motor Sports Group in June 2011, improvements to the 52 year-old circuit have been coming fast and thick.
From improved roads and spectator viewing areas, to a new access tunnel, two new pedestrian bridges and a massive new administration building and event centre - all of which have been built since the fall of 2011 - Fellows and Fidani, in partnership with Canadian Tire, have wasted little time in sprucing things up.
"With my partner Carlo Fidani and his commercial real estate development business, he has a great vision for Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and obviously with the relationship that Canadian Tire has with NASCAR in Canada and the relationship they now have with us, it was hugely helpful in securing the date."
Whenever we go into a relationship it's important to understand all elements and the way Carlo laid out his vision it was significant to the conversation," said Jim Cassidy, NASCAR's Managing Director of Racing Operations tells PRN Ignition in an interview.

Carlo Fidani
Net worth: $2 billion - 634th place
Another representative of Canada on the list of billionaires is a Mississauga businessperson, Carlo Fidani, who is Chairman of Orlando Corporation, a privately owned Canadian real estate construction company. The corporation was originally founded by Carlo's grandfather back in 1948 and he is now the third generation to run the family construction, development, and management business. Nowadays, the company owns more than 40 million square feet of industrial, office, and commercial real estate in the Toronto area.
Among other things, Carlo Fidani is closely involved in the healthcare industry, which he regularly supports through landmark investments. He donated $10 million to the University of Toronto's Mississauga campus to contribute to the growth of local hospitals and encourage young medical students to work where they trained. A true believer in Canada's healthcare system, Fidani's convinced that the only solution to preserving the system is private donation. However, there's also a personal level as far as his contributions in healthcare services are concerned. Almost every member of Carlo's family has been affected by cancer and it was his frequent visits to cancer wards that had the greatest influence on his present initiatives. That's why he gave $6 million to another Mississauga hospital, Credit Valley, for its cancer unit.
