There is a history as put out by GM Lanada.
There is no verification of it whatsoever. The last history put out in the Kuntaw book and on the original Kuntaw.com web page was written by me. With my research into the history of Kuntaw, I found that there is no history beyond what GM Lanada knew from his Ama and Lolo. As stated by GM Lanada, to me, the Kuntaw name came about as a Tagalog version of Kun-tao. Thus, the name Kuntaw was coined by GM and so is the meaning: Kun - Kunsagrado - Sacred and Taw - Hataw - Strike, which came about in the 90's after GM moved to the USA. Just like Kali was coined by Eskrima GM Floro Villabrille and popularized by Danny Inosanto, Kuntaw came about the same way and was and is popularized by GM Carlito A. Lanada, Sr. and his many instructors and family. Kuntaw's GM Carlito A. Lanada, Sr. blog
