To help this cause along, Carl Snyder, of New Tripoli opened nine of his 18 hole Olde Homestead golf course recently on land he's been farming for most of his life. Coincidentally, the new course is a couple of long driver shots to the ridge I've been deer hunting on over the past 10 years. Snyder is a longtime farmer in this northern Lehigh County township. At 71, he is a sixth generation farmer who once stated that he didnt' think his children could make an income from farming. Because of that, he decided to do something different with his land that most other farmers would never consider doing. In fact, most farmers of his age normally sell their land for home development and live out their years in comfortable retirement from the proceeds. A sitation that has been happening at too great a rate in Lehigh County. Back in '93, Snyder hired golf course architect, Jim Blaukovitch. And Carl Snyder's foresight is to be commended.
