Cross-dressing was the price to pay for losing a bet with social studies teacher Carl Neely over whose class could collect more food for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.
Neely's class won -- 1,601 food items to 1,123.
But in the interests of good sportsmanship and in recognition of a spirited last-minute food drive by Asserson's class, Neely
agreed to wear a dress, too, although only for one period.Neely
showed up for his
morning class in a bright red dress with festive gold necklace and earrings shaped as Christmas stockings with tiny teddy bears.

was a National Science Foundation Award Winner in 1993 for being 1 of 30 teachers recognized in teaching natural hazards.Carl's
