This Sunday will mark the first service at the new location, according to Pastor Carl Keith, pictured above.
After seven and a half years of meeting at Bassett High School each Sunday, CrossPoint Church has moved into the former Colonial Downs site and will hold its first service at the new location at 10 a.m. this Sunday, according to CrossPoint Pastor Carl Keith. Keith said that he has not personally spoken to any representatives of Colonial Downs, "but it's my understanding that they will not be opening back up." While Bassett High School was an excellent home for the church for more than seven years, Keith said, the process of moving all the necessary equipment in and out of the school each weekend was exhausting. "We would go in on Saturdays, unload five trailers, and turn it into (a church)," Keith said. "Then on Sundays, after the service, we would tear down. … It takes about an hour and a half to unload those five big trailers, and then about an hour to pack back up. … When we move into (Colonial Downs), we'll have it seven days a week. It gives us more opportunity for outreach throughout the week." "We've been looking at buildings throughout the county, and we've wanted to get this one for a long time," Keith added. "We finally found the right connection." Keith and his wife, children's ministry leader Kim Keith, and a host of volunteers have spent several weeks renovating the former Colonial Downs site, including building a stage and constructing classrooms for the youth ministry.
