There are physicians not involved in our group who will be admitting patients there," said Dr. Carl Berasi, another of the doctors forming the New Albany Surgical Hospital.
The facility will contain 30 beds and eight operating rooms.Berasi
estimated 60-percent of the work done there will be considered out patient service.
In a meeting last week, executives from four existing full-service hospitals (Ohio State University Health Care Systems, Children's Hospital
, Mount Carmel Health and Ohio Health) complained that the new facility will start a trend which would leave them providing most of the care for indigent patients.Pulling a high revenue source from those hospitals by taking away patients who can pay for health care will make hospitals lose revenue now used to help pay for indigent patient care.
said the New Albany Surgical Hospital
also "will treat all patients. We have no intent to cherry-pick."
We're focused on patient care, not profitability," Berasi
Officials in New Albany
are welcoming the new facility, partly because of the tax revenue it will generate.
"It's going to be great for the community. It will be a good facility to have and will be state of the art. It's clean, non-polluting and will not have a high volume of traffic like retail.
