"It's no small feat to get the horses so solid and so broke that they'll ride the same way for anyone," said Carey Cathey, 33, a horse trainer out of Tenmile who won two divisions, earned reserve champion honors in another, and placed third in the Open division at this month's OCHA competition.
"We've had a number of our clients win over the years, and that makes us want to keep doing what we do."Cathey
wife, KariLee, own Cathey Cutting Horses in Tenmile.Over the past 10 years, they have worked with a number of horse owners around Douglas County to prepare the animals for competition.

is grateful to local horse owners Janice Wimberly of Roseburg, and Jerry and Edna Stoffal of Winston for letting him ride their horses to victory this year.

Riding "Conger Cuttin Critter" -- owned by the Stoffals -- Cathey
earned $1,405 for his
second-place finish in the $10,000 Novice division (the dollar figure refers to the horse's career earnings).Riding "Kate's Cedar Shake" -- owned by Wimberly -- Cathey
netted another $233 in the $1,500 novice division.
