Bellevue Mines Bounces Back with Website, 14 Sept 2004 [cached]
Cameron Welsh teaches data management at the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business and operates an environmental education company in Crowsnest Pass.It was an ideal fit.Cameron charged a mere $450, and was willing to accept late payment.
Website maintenance was a concern when Welsh began the project, so he has designed a simple site that the trust society can take over and administer without his help.
"The volunteers don't have a lot of time," he says."I want them to be able to quickly and easily update things like calendars of events and price changes."
Welsh was careful to build a site with a common template throughout, so when volunteers make updates, every page looks identical from a design perspective.
"Most of the people I've built sites for don't have a lot of knowledge, so this approach makes the most sense," he says.
Expanding partnershipsWelsh, who grew up in the area, believes deeply that the Internet builds community partnerships and networks. The site, launched in March, is already linked to the, a tourist guide to Crowsnest Pass, and the Crowsnest Chamber of Commerce.
"The forest fires gave people insight into how fragile we are, which has brought the community together," says Welsh.
