Second Baptist Church of Evanston, Illinois * Office: 847-869-6955 BIOGRAPHY OF DR. C. CHARLES CLENCY, MINISTER OF MUSIC Dr. C. Charles Clency holds degrees in music from Northeastern Illinois University, Indiana University, and University of Miami, where his 1998 doctoral thesis was European Classical Influences in Modern Settings of the African-American Spiritual. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the religious music of the African-American tradition. Skilled as an organist, pianist, and conductor, Clency was accompanist-arranger for the gospel singer Mahalia Jackson until her death in 1972. He later produced six recording albums with his own 60-singer Voices of Melody, which gained national renown for their choral diversity and excellence. From his native Chicago, Dr. Clency has served full-time music ministries in Indiana, Florida, and Texas. Since 2004, Dr. Clency has held the position of minister of music at Second Baptist Church. He is also professor of music and director of choral activities at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. Reputed for high standards of musical excellence, Dr. Clency is frequently called upon to serve as guest conductor and workshop clinician. He holds professional memberships in the American Choral Directors Association, the Music Educators National Conference, Gospel Music Workshop of America, and the Chicago Music Association.

Gospel recording artist Dr. C. Charles Clency led worship at First Baptist along with a gospel choir composed of singers from our church. Dr Clency is professor of music at the College of Lake County and leads the 60 voice CLC gospel choir. He holds degrees in music from Northeastern Illinois University, Indiana University, and the University of Miami.
