Formative Years & Higher Education
Dr. Brazier was educated in the Chicago Public Schools, attending and graduating from Doolittle Elementary School and Wendell Phillips High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University after first attending Wilson Junior College (Kennedy-King) and Northern Illinois University. Dr. Brazier also received a master of arts in Theological Studies and a doctor of ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary.
Professional Career
Dr. Brazier started his professional career in 1972 as a production supervisor at Johnson and Johnson. In 1973, he joined the data processing division of IBM Corporation as a salesman. He later became a marketing instructor in Dallas, Texas, and was promoted to several positions until he left IBM in 1991 as a business unit executive over the public sector. During his tenure at IBM, he received national recognition for his service and leadership on several occasions.
In 1991, Dr. Brazier started Brazier and Associates and was appointed Chief Information Officer for the Chicago Housing Authority, where he remained until 1995, the year he became the general administrator of the Apostolic Church of God.
Pastor in Training
As general administrator, Dr. Brazier oversaw the management of church staff, the implementation of a new auxiliary structure, the development of a new information system, as well as the Systematic Ministry Process (SMP) for ministerial training and development. In 1998, Dr. Brazier was elevated to the office of assistant pastor by his pastor and father, Bishop Brazier. And in 2004, he was nominated by the church's board of trustees-later ratified by the congregation-to become the next pastor of the Apostolic Church of God. He assumed the role in June 2008 when Bishop Brazier retired from the pastorate of ACOG after forty-eight years of service. In September of that same year, he was officially installed as pastor by his father in an emotional and uplifting service. In that service he committed to the congregation that he would be a pastor of the same kind, one who is committed to the ministry of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Since taking the helm of the pastorate, Dr. Brazier has kept his word, establishing several programs and projects specifically designed to draw souls to Jesus Christ and spur on the spiritual growth of the congregation.
As the shepherd of ACOG, Dr. Brazier has also valiantly led his congregation through challenging times such as a faltering economy and its impacts on individuals and families in the church, and the homegoing of its beloved pastor emeritus, Bishop Brazier, in October 2010.
Family Life
Dr. Brazier has been married to his wife, Evangelist Mary Brazier, since 1976. They met at a wedding in 1974 and began dating one year later. During their one-year courtship, Dr. Brazier never missed a weekend visiting his wife-to-be, who lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at the time.
Active in the community, Dr. Brazier sits on several boards. He is one of nine commissioners of the Cook County Sheriff's Merit Board and a member of McCormick Theological Seminary's Executive Board. Dr. Brazier is also a member of the following institutions: the Olive Branch Mission, the South Side YMCA, the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation (WPIC), and Metropolis 2020. Dr. Brazier is also very active in the Public Safety arena having been involved in addressing disproportionate minority incarceration within the Cook County judicial system. He was a member of the Governor's Commission on re-entry, and in 2008 was asked by the sitting governor to lead the implementation of the task force report. In the fall of 2011, he established the Arthur M. Brazier Foundation.
