Bud Cosgrove -Fitness Coach Senior Wellness Certified Personal Trainer Email Bud ​ Bud Cosgrove is a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor, and is currently the Director of Sportset's renowned Total Wellness/Senior Fitness program. Bud has been a key staff member here at Sportset since 1999. He has advanced credentials in balance and fall prevention training, and has created the Fall-Safe Program which is a comprehensive education and training program designed to prevent falls and/or mitigate the consequences of falls by older adults. Bud also specializes in post cardiac/orthopedic, and other post rehab programs, and has crafted pre-operative exercise programs for members preparing for joint replacement surgery

Prior to joining the Sportset staff Bud enjoyed an extensive public service career in the recreation, parks and sports field, serving at the Deputy Commissioner of Recreation and Parks for 25 years; having responsibility for the management and operations of Nassau County's active parks system, and its comprehensive array of programs and services; among which was his role in the establishment of the Long Island Marathon, and the 1984 International Games for the Physically Challenged Athletes of the world. Another career high light was his role in the planning , development and operations of the Mitchel Park Sports Complex, that has been an outstanding sports venue success since its opening day.
Bud achieved a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education and Physical Education from SUNY Brockport NY, and a Master of Arts Degree in Physical Education and Recreation Administration from Columbia University. He is a full adjunct professor at LIU's, CW Post campus in the Department of Health Care and Public Administration. He has also taught at Adelphi University, St. Joseph's College and SUNY Farmingdale.
Bud has lived in Rockville Centre since 1969. He and wife Suzie have raised their six children here, and have eight grandchildren all close by. Suzie is an active member of Sportset, and a number of his local grand children have taken part in Sportset's excellent children's programs.
Bud is a Viet Nam era US Army Veteran, serving with the 269th Signal Company in Europe during the Berlin Wall Crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Bud has been physically active as a former high school and college track athlete; he had been an elite softball player for 40 years, and has completed 6 full marathons to include New York City's famous marathon twice.
Bud sees his role here at Sportset as a "calling "an "avocation" and not a job. He is dedicated to helping others to make the necessary "Lifestyle Changes for a Lifetime of Wellness."

The Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Parade Committee has chosen two of its original founders, Joseph F. Kelly and Bud Cosgrove, to be the co-Grand Marshals of the Fifteenth Annual Parade, scheduled for Saturday, March 19, 2011.
"Without the vision of Bud Cosgrove and Joseph Kelly, our Parade would not have been possible.
Bud Cosgrove and his wife Suzie have lived in Rockville Centre for 42 years, and have six adult children and seven grandchildren. Mr. Cosgrove earned a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from SUNY Brockport, a Masters degree in Physical Education and Recreation from Columbia University, and is a Vietnam era Army veteran, serving with the 269th Signal Company in Orleans, France during the Berlin Wall and Cuban missile crises. Professionally, Mr. Cosgrove began as the Assistant Director for Recreation for the Town of Hempstead, where he played an integral role in the planning and implementation of the Town's nationally recognized ANCHOR program. After leaving the Town of Hempstead, he served for 25 years as one of the founders and executives of the Nassau County Department of Recreation and Parks. As Deputy Commissioner of Nassau County's Recreation and Parks Department, Mr. Cosgrove had responsibility for the operations of Nassau County's active park system. Since 2000 he has been the Director of Senior Wellness and Special Needs Programs at Sportset Health and Fitness Club in Rockville Centre, and he has been an Adjunct Professor at C.W. Post University in its School of Management-Health Care and Public Administration for over 30 years. On the charitable side, after helping organize the first Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Parade, Mr. Cosgrove served as Co-Chairman of the Parade Committee for ten years, and he remains active on numerous sub-committees of the Parade to this day. He also served for 12 years as a Trustee of the Village of Rockville Centre. "I am very proud of this honor and especially that I will share it with Joe Kelly", Mr. Cosgrove said.
