The next two years were spent with the Surgical Research and Nutrition Laboratory at the Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He was then assigned as Chief of the Division of Clinical Surgical Research at the Letterman Army Institute of Research, San Francisco, California. Entering private practice in 1975, Dr. Persky came to San Carlos Veterinary Hospital as an associate veterinarian, then became a co-owner in 1978. He has advanced training and a special interest in Thoracic, Cardiovascular, Neurological, and Orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Persky is a member of the major veterinary medical associations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), San Diego County VMA, and the California VMA. He is also a member of the Association for Veterinary Research and Education (AVORE). In 2004, Dr. Persky was awarded the prestigious Donald G. Low - California Veterinary Medical Association Practitioner Fellowship at the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Bruce Persky, co-owner of San Carlos Veterinary Hospital (SCVH), has been awarded a Donald G. Low - California Veterinary Medical Association Practitioner Fellowship at the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Persky, who graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1972, was one of only twelve practitioners to receive this prestigious award in the 2004-2005 program. A copy of the press release regarding Dr. Persky's fellowship is attached.

The Donald G. Low Fellowships, which are a joint activity between the California Veterinary Medical Association and the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, were created to give practitioners the opportunity to improve their knowledge in an area of professional interest. Dr. Persky's fellowship will allow him to spend 20 days studying the latest developments in small animal ultrasound with the faculty, residents and students at the UC Davis facility.
