Brian Kayes is one of the 2010 co-recipients of the Canadian Emergency Management Award. Since 1999, Brian has been Director of Emergency Coordination for the City of Brandon, Manitoba. Brian has a background that includes being: Manager of Emergency Communications for Brandon where, among other things, he directed the operation of the Provincial Enhanced 911 Centre. Among his career accomplishments, Brian has developed innovative programs that continue to produce effective and sustainable results including:

"The Brandon Emergency Support Team undertook 'Exercise Leaving Home' as a way to both learn and educate at the same time," explains Brian Kayes, the City of Brandon's Director of Emergency Management.
"The Brandon Emergency Support Team is committed to educating the community in any way it can to deal with emergency response situations," Kayes said. "Exercises like the ones we organize will only help to further strengthen the City's ability to respond to emergencies and disasters when they do grip our community." Kayes will travel to Sydney, Nova Scotia, next month to accept the award on behalf of the City of Brandon, the Brandon Police Service and the Brandon Emergency Support Team. The award will be presented during the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference on Aug.20th.
