Brett Bartolotta, 42, a former volunteer firefighter in West Haven who now lives in Vermont, was also arrested in the case on the same charges.
The alleged abuse is said to have begun in 2001 and continued until the man told police and his
mother in February he
was abused, according to an arrest warrant affidavit for the men.
Both pleaded not guilty in court Thursday.
The affidavit for Meyer and Bartolotta
says alleged abuse of a Vermont man who is now 25 years old began when the man was 12.
Sex acts allegedly occurred in Ludlow, a popular ski resort town, and Cavendish, a small, quiet town nearby, and total about 300 to 400 with Meyer and double that amount with Bartolotta
, the document says.
The alleged victim was first introduced to Bartolotta
through a friend, bonded with Bartolotta
over an interest in dirt bikes, and eventually viewed him as a father-figure, since he
own father as a young boy, the affidavit states.
, who still lived in Connecticut at the time, eventually sold the boy a dirt bike, but when the boy was unable to make his
allegedly said he
could engage in sex acts with him as payment.
After the first act, Bartolotta
allegedly gave him $100.
The acts began with both giving and receiving oral sex, and Bartolotta
allegedly told the boy he
could participate in orgies that Bartolotta
attended and make money, according to the affidavit.
married and trysts allegedly occurred at homes of Bartolotta's
construction clients in Ludlow.
About a year after the two began a sexual relationship, Bartolotta
introduced the alleged victim to Meyer.
When Meyer visited from Connecticut, Bartolotta
would allegedly tell the alleged victim to perform oral sex on Meyer in the shower, and Meyer would pay him with money and goods.
About 2,000 Facebook messages - some that allegedly discussed meeting for sex and others that discussed urinating on each other and tying each other up - were sent between the alleged victim and both Meyer
, according to the affidavit.
In December 2012, the alleged victim became upset with Bartolotta
lack of attention," the affidavit states.
Police on Wednesday executed a search warrant at Bartolotta's
home, seizing a gray tool box that contained items described by the man, and Bartolotta
was then taken into custody.
