And, according to Brenda Wyatt, ADP TotalSource's director of claims management, the strategy is working."I can't imagine following a claim without having access to our RMIS system," says Wyatt, noting that ADP TotalSource uses @venture, the RMIS tool offered by Hartford Specialty's Risk Management Division."We have a couple of old claims that aren't on the system, and it gets really frustrating, playing phone tag with adjusters.Without the RMIS, it difficult to find out what's going on with that claim."In her role, Wyatt manages group of eight people who monitor the company's comp claims, especially making sure the staff keeps its clients informed. To do that, Wyatt's staff uses @venture to track any claims, constantly communicating with adjusters in the process."The way we use it, we scan adjuster notes, keep close tabs on the financials for the claim, and make sure a claim is reserved properly," she says.Wyatt explains that ADP TotalSource's TPA bills on a fee-per-claim basis, so her staff uses @venture to document any bill in the pipeline. She says one of the best aspects of a Web-based enterprise RMIS is reduced time. For example, on claims where the staff once needed to wait two to three days to see information in the system, @venture provides access to claim information the next day."With our RMIS, we can make sure everyone is doing what they need to do on a claim, which is very important for us, because we have a strong return-to-work program," she says. While ADP TotalSource has only been using @venture since late in the third quarter of 2001, the staff felt the impact immediately."It's a whole lot better than our old mainframe system," Wyatt says."It's much faster, and we quickly can get to where we need to go with any claim. When clients calls me, they want to know what's going in, and we can tell them."ROI-wise, Wyatt says measurements haven't been done yet, but she's knows the Web-based application is saving time, which, in turn, typically means money."We know that our lines are fast and we have state-of-the-art equipment here," she says."We can breeze through these claims."Wyatt personally takes advantage of the "user-defined" fields creation function, which gives her the power to pick and choose exactly what data she can include with a claim."Best of all, every piece of data on every employee with a workers comp claims is accessible," she says."If we have an employee who calls us, we can easily pull up that specific information. When a Florida claim comes in, for example, I know who to call in that area.It gives our employees a confidence level in that they know we are looking out for them."Bob Evans Inc.
