There are 250,000 uninsured West Virginians who lack prescription drug coverage and cannot afford medications, said Brenda Dane, the executive director for WVRx.

A major goal of WVRx
said, is to keep people out of emergency rooms and lower overall health care costs.
"One goal overall is to help people find medical homes as well as connect to their medications," she
"It keeps them out of emergency rooms and reduces health care costs overall.
"But, more importantly, we aim to insure that every person that approaches WVRx
is met with dignity and respect because oftentimes it's hard to tell somebody you can't afford something."
said a lot of people they want to reach out to are those who have a health plan, but it doesn't cover prescription drugs.
"Oftentimes people think because they have health insurance they're not eligible for WVRx
when, in fact, if you have no prescription drug coverage and fall within the income guidelines, then we can help," she
"If you don't fall within the income guidelines, then we can guide people to the place they can get medications either for free or at the least possible price."
In order to qualify, you must be a West Virginia resident with no prescription drug coverage and your family total household income must be at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, which for a family of four is about $42,400 a year, Dane
There is a $30 annual fee for participation, but because WVRx
is a barrier-free program, it can waive the fee depending on the situation, she
added, "I don't think we've turned anybody down yet and I sense we won't."
