Brenda BuchweitzBuchweitz and her husband, Mark, show their prized beauty at car shows throughout the region, something that Buchweitz does when she's not teaching ninth-grade algebra. She joined the staff at SRHS eight years ago after working as a math teacher at Oslo Middle School and the former Vero Beach Junior High School, now the Freshman Learning Center. Advertisement "A friend of mine called me and said they were looking for a high school math teacher in Sebastian," said Buchweitz."I had worked for (SRHS principal) Dr. Jones before and I thought it was time for a change." Buchweitz grew up in Illinois and received her bachelor of science in junior high/middle school mathematics education from Illinois State University. She attended Nova Southeastern University, where she received her master's degree in specific learning disabilities. "I always wanted to teach math," recalls Buchweitz."I had some excellent math teachers myself and they inspired me and pushed me in pursuing math as a career.I really enjoy teaching algebra because I think it's a building block for all of high school mathematics.I like to think of math as a giant puzzle and when the kids finally put all the pieces together, I know they really get it." SRHS Assistant Principal Bill Wilson said that Brenda is like an angel that the staff can reach out and touch. In addition to exhibiting the car and traveling to shows, Buchweitz and her husband have an unusual business: they breed and sell parrots.

H1 PRESENTATION to HEAD'S TOGETHER at SEA PINES ... On the exciting side of things in our ministry ... on Thurs, March 31, 2016, at 6:30 PM at the invitation of Brenda Buchweitz, we had the privilege of sharing information about HONORED1 Ministries at the Head's Together Support Group for Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors at their monthly meeting at the Health South Sea Pines Rehab Hospital in Palm Bay.
MARK & BRENDA BUCHWEITZ INFO ... Mark and Brenda serve on our HONORED1 Ministries Team and Brenda is a member of our Board of Directors. Brenda was voted the 2007 Sebastian River High School TEACHER OF THE YEAR and she is the president of the Head's Together Support Group. Mark was a successful business owner who served as a Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary Officer when he survived a horrific accident on Interstate 95 in 2002. A drunk driver exited a rest area traveling in the wrong direction slamming into Mark's car flipping it nine times and leaving him in a life threatening coma for two months. In answer to our prayers and with Brenda by his side 24/7 encouraging him, Mark survived his coma. In his rehab as a traumatic brain injury survivor with severe nerve and muscle damage, Mark's comeback miraculously far exceeded the expectations of his doctors and physical therapists. NEEDED ... A SUPPORT GROUP FOR CAREGIVERS ... Since returning home in 2003 from his stay in the hospital ICU and his rehab at SEA PINES, Mark requires 24/7 nursing care. When Mark's recovery allowed Brenda to return to work as a teacher, she took on the responsibility of serving as Mark's caregiver on nights and weekends. After our presentation at SEA PINES, Brenda reached out to us requesting that we start a support group for CAREGIVERS. Knowing all that Brenda does as a caregiver for her husband, Mark, and for her students as a TEACHER OF THE YEAR, that request was music to our ears as a welcomed ministry opportunity. HEARTFELT SACRIFICES ... Ministering Support to Caregivers ... To launch a support group for caregivers, we had an organizational meeting with Brenda and Mark at MeMaw's on Thurs night, Apr 14, 2016. Anyone who has been a caregiver for their loved ones will appreciate the name that Brenda came up with for this support group, "HEARTFELT SACRIFICES.

Mark and Brenda Buchweitz serve on our HONORED1 Ministries Team.
Brenda is a member of our HONORED1, INC. Ministries Board of Directors and she also serves as the president of HEAD'S TOGETHER, a Space Coast area support group for traumatic brain injury survivors and their families. (For information about Mark and Brenda Buchweitz, please see the FLORIDA TODAY newspaper article below.) Brenda invited us to share information about HONORED1 Ministries at their HEAD'S TOGETHER Monthly Support Group Meeting for Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors on Thurs, March 31, 2016, at 6:30 PM, at the Health South Sea Pines Rehab Hospital in Palm Bay. After the meeting, Brenda reached out to us requesting that we start a support group for CAREGIVERS. Knowing all that Brenda does as Mark's caregiver, we eagerly welcomed that ministry opportunity. To launch this ministry, we had an organizational meeting with Brenda and Mark Buchweitz at MeMaw's BBQ in Palm Bay, FL on Thurs night, Apr 14, 2016. Anyone who has been a caregiver for their loved ones will appreciate the name that Brenda came up with for this support group, "HEARTFELT SACRIFICES. The tagline for this group is, "Ministering Support to Caregivers. We had our first official meeting on Mon night, May 9, 2016, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at MeMaw's BBQ. The following FLORIDA TODAY newspaper article about MARK & BRENDA BUCHWEITZ was published 10+ YEARS AGO on the front page of the Palm Bay Edition of the Communities section on Wed, March 8, 2006: You take it one day at a time," said Brenda Buchweitz, an algebra teacher at Sebastian River High School. "They told us Mark would never remember anything or get out of bed." But he had support. "A lot of people were pushing me on," he said. "They kept telling me, 'You gotta do it, you gotta do it. Don't just lay in bed.' " He had to learn to walk, talk and rebuild the muscles in his legs. During months of therapy at Sea Pines Rehabilitation Hospital in Melbourne, Buchweitz was aided by the latest equipment. Robotic braces attached to his legs helped him start walking again on a treadmill, one step at a time. Buchweitz, was the co-owner of a property management company in Palm Bay. He now spends time on the computer for local organizations. He uses his computer skills to make charts that help him keep track of his exercises. The colorful birds in the couple's home add a pleasant atmosphere to his surroundings. They have 58 exotic parrots, a hobby Buchweitz began before the accident. This summer, Mark and Brenda are going on a cruise in Alaska to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. Brenda has been a pillar of strength and encouragement for her husband, said the Rev. John D. Selvage, Jr., associate pastor of the First Baptist Church of Malabar. "Since his wreck, Mark's comeback has truly been miraculous."
