"This is a trailblazing effort," said Local 42 Business Manager Brandon Flinn.
"We're organizing cops who are tired of being treated like third-class citizens with no appeal rights.
"They have constitutional rights just as any citizens, and our goal is to provide them with much-needed representation on the job," said Flinn
Police, deputies and other law enforcement officers are joining Local 42 for a list of benefits, Flinn said.
The benefits include:
• Protection from uneven or unfair application of departmental discipline or promotions.
"We go to bat for officers who have been the victims of unfair discipline, reprimands or termination just as if they were construction members of Local 42
