Joanne and Bob Russell have lived and raised family here in St. Albert. They have three children and five grandchildren. Bob has served two terms on School Board and three terms on city council. He has also served six terms on the former Edmonton Metropolitan Planning commission.
Mr. Russell is a member of St. Matthews Anglican Churchn where he sings in the choir. He is also a member of the Villeneuve Airport Task Force and, as a former airline manager, he believes that the Villeneuve Airport offers a tremendous economic advantage to St. Albert.
An avid gardener, he also volunteers at the Family Parish community garden and drives handicapped people to the food bank. He received the Queen's Jubilee medal for public service awarded at Government House by former Lt. Gov Lois Hole.
Mr. Russell is a Level 11 mediator and a Paralegal agent. He recently completed a two year law course and graduated with Honors. He also holds a Certificate in Planning and Zoning, a course given by the Edmonton Realtors Association where he attained the highest mark recorded in his class (100%).
Mr. Russell is a member of the St. Albert and District Garden Club, the Historical Society and the Big Lake Environment Society (BLESS) where he served as the president for many years. He has also served for 32 years on the Junior Hockey Scholarship Committee for Alberta.

"I think it's wonderful because getting provincial park status allows far more control on the land surrounding the lake," said Bob Russell, past-president and director of the Big Lake Environmental Society.
The society has pushed for this status since the early '90s, Russell said.
The lake needs protection from development pressing in from all sides, including farming, residential development and oil and gas wells.
"That doesn't mean (the development) won't continue, but a lot more regulations will come into play," said Russell, who was invited to the dedication ceremony on Friday.
