Detective Bob PowersBob Powers is a Homicide Investigator, who is also the Forensic Artist for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in Phoenix, Arizona.
Born in Ohio, Detective Powers studied art at Ohio University in Athens.After moving to Arizona in 1960, he started a twenty-year career as a Men's Hairstylist.Since joining the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in 1986, he has had assignments in patrol and District Detectives before joining the Homicide Unit in 1996.Detective Powers's life long interest in sketching faces led him to seek training in Forensic Art.In 1995, while investigating a prowler incident, he rendered his first attempt of a suspect composite drawing.While successful in generating leads, he felt the work could be improved and sought advanced training.
Detective Powers' training included studying and working with people who had exceptional credentials in the field, such as author Karen Taylor, who is an expert in the two dimensional reconstruction technique, which is now the preference of Mr. Powers himself. :: Northwest Arkansas' News Source, 5 July 2006 [cached]
But the system's great scope underscores its chief drawback, says Bob Powers, a detective and missing persons coordinator for the Maricopa County sheriff's office in Phoenix.
His office recovered the skeletal remains of a decapitated woman in 1988.He receives a notice of a possible match from the FBI almost daily.A match hasn't turned up yet.
"There's so many" files in the FBI database, Powers said.
