They drove back in the TC with daughter number two riding in a dickey that was located in a very small space behind the seats over the rear axle.Back home in Cleveland , Ralph got involved in racing the TC and met a plumber named Bob Lossman who was selling MG's out of his plumbing shop.Bob asked Ralph if he would be interested in joining him in opening an MG agency in Lakewood.Ralph agonized over that for about 10 seconds and in 1954 left the Hupp Corporation to become the manager of MG Motor Sales at the corner of Hilliard and Madison in Lakewood until he retired in 1977.During these years , a son was added to the family and Betty was kept busy raising Jane , Judy and James. She did manage to get a Real Estate license and was quite successful at it and during the holidays she supplemented the family income by working at some of the department stores part-time.Ralph is an avid golfer and is on the greens committee at Avon Oaks Country Club.He does his own landscaping and gardening and grows beautiful tulips. He is currently involved in the restoration of a 1966 Morgan and also owns a 1968 Firebird convertible and 1972 MGB.Betty likes to paint , draw and sew and used to play a lot of golf but some problems with arthritis have curtailed these activities. She still enjoys gardening with Ralph and likes to work on the family trees.Ralph and Betty are regulars at the Executive Club West where they swim daily at 6 : 00 AM.They also take a Stretch Mobility Class together and Ralph is so pleased that it seems to be helping Betty get back some of the movements that she was losing. In closing , I would like to say that doing this interview was an inspiration to me..You may know that I recently retired and am busier than I ever was when I was working.Ralph told me that the best part about his retirement was that it allowed him to spend more time with Betty. What a wonderful testament to their relationship.I certainly need to keep Ralph's words in mind for my own life and the years that I have ahead of me with my own sweet heart and best friend.Next month we talk about Ralph's cars and his adventures over the years with racing , selling and servicing MG's.And I certainly want to find out more about this Morgan.Editors Note : As Bob and I have always said , it is not the cars , but the people that make the car club. Please plan on taking the MG on for a drive on June 20th and think about the many really nice people that you have met through the clubs.Have a nice drive. . .
