After the initial shock and panic subsides, you know that you will do everything in your power to be a survivor," says Bob Ellal, co-author of Energy Warriors: Overcoming Cancer and Crisis with the Power of Qigong . And he knows what he's talking about. In his literary account, Bob chronicles his four-time battle with cancer. A battle he won. Stress and crisis were part of the struggle. Qigong was a part of the healing. He adds, "You owe it to yourself and to the people in your life to fight for survival."
Energy Warriors is two books in one. It is one man's journey to inner strength, as Bob Ellal takes the reader along for the ride on his path from illness to wellness. The quality of his prose is indisputable, as he becomes the energy warrior Beowulf, strategizing and fighting to defeat his insidious opponent: cancer.
Bob Ellal's story is followed by a Qigong manual by martial arts master Lawrence Tan, who presents an inspiring introduction to the basics of Qigong, including easy-to-follow posture, breath, and visualization exercises readers can put into immediate practice.

About Bob Ellal Bob Ellal is a four-time cancer survivor. In 1991 he was diagnosed with Stage Four bone lymphoma and given six months to live. With chemotherapy and continuous daily sessions of meditation, he beat the disease. Unfortunately, it relapsed three times over the next five years and he underwent two stem cell transplants. Ellal went more deeply into the mind/body connection and trained with a kung-fu master from Boston in Chinese internal energy exercises-Qigong. The doctors gave him a 10% chance of survival. He ignored them, and immersed himself in a disciplined daily practice of standing post meditation Qigong. Against all odds, he finally beat the disease in 1996. He's been cancer-free for 16 years and continues to practice Qigong for an hour or more a day.
Ellal has worked as a writer/editor for a division of a major publisher and at a major insurance corporation. He also works as a freelancer.

In our third segment, The Passionate Patient, we hear the remarkable story of Bob Ellal, a writer who was diagnosed with stage 4 bone lymphoma some 20 years ago. Bob learned firsthand that he could take control of his condition through what we now call integrative medicine, the convergence between conventional, Western approaches to disease and the Eastern mind, body and spirit traditions. In Bob's case, the tradition he embraced was qigong, the Chinese internal energy practice that, in 1996, drove his cancer into complete remission despite his doctor's bleak prognosis. He detailed this victory in his first book, Confronting Cancer with the Qigong Edge.
