BOB BURDEN
BOB BURDEN is presented the ISPA Distinguished Service Award for 2006 in recognition of his service to ISPA The International School Psychology Association has great pleasure presenting an award to Professor Bob Burden in recognition of his indispensable services to the Association for nearly twenty years. Although Bob first attended the ISPA colloquium in York in 1979, it was not until the Interlaken colloquium in 1987 that he became fully involved with the Association. At that time he concluded negotiations with Sage to become the joint editor of School Psychology International, a position he still holds today. Under his editorship this journal has flourished and it is now among the highest rated international academic journals in applied psychology. From 1992 until 1997 he served on the ISPA Executive Committee as President Elect, President and Past President. Not only was he an outstanding member of the EC and President of the Association, managing committee meetings with a blend of humour and sound judgement, but during this period he further cemented ISPA's links with SAGE through adding a membership category whereby members could receive School Psychology International at an extremely favourable rate. This helped to enhance the academic and professional goals of the Association. During his time as President Bob wrote a most influential paper on school psychology for UNESCO. This groundbreaking comprehensive international review of International School Psychology led directly to ISPA cementing its links with United Nations organisations. Since retiring from the EC, Bob has been a regular attendee at colloquia and, in 2004, he organised a most successful colloquium at Exeter, his home town. He managed this daunting task almost single handedly and with unswerving good humour. It is a very great pleasure for me to present this award to Bob Burden, on behalf of ISPA, as our modest and heartfelt thank you for what he has done for the Association and for his commitment to continue to support our activities.
