Bob Bowcock, an environmental consultant for Girardi and Keese - the law firm that Brockovich is associated with - spoke to concerned residents and told them that because everyone had different concerns, any pending actions would be more personalized than previous lawsuits.
Bowcock said residents throughout the community had been affected by chromium 6 contamination, even if their wells showed no traces of the chemical. After testing 180 wells throughout Hinkley, he believes there are patches of contamination far from the original site because of storm events and the trucking of water from contaminated wells to fill shallower wells that ran dry. Bowcock believes that because this contaminated water was spread throughout Hinkley, there are no naturally occurring background levels of chromium 6 in Hinkley as stated in the background study that was put into effect in 2008. Bowcock said he was happy the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board was going to have the results of the background study peer reviewed.
