Blake Hanacek is the founder of Vancouver-based AGRO Coffee Roasters & Cafes, the voice forhis mission to educate the world about sustainable agriculture.
An importer, roaster, and retailer ofFair Trade Organic coffees, what he
does isn't work.
His AGRO journey began in 2004 as co-founder of a Kenyan-based NGO, AGRODEV(Agricultural Growers Resource Organization Developing Economic Viability).
Meeting with smallscalefarmers in five coffee-producing countries enabled him to develop his
unique Crop2Cup™direct trading program, and open the first AGRO
Cafe in Vancouver
, in 2006.
He has held an executive level position in a large commodities corporation in Uganda, and hisexperience in the specialty coffee world reaches from growing and harvesting, to roasting andpulling kick ass shots of espresso.
AGRO's fearless leader also managed to find time to earn a Masters of Watershed Managementfrom the University of British Columbia, on top of his B.Sc. in Global Resource Systems from theFaculty of Agricultural Science at UBC.
Having studied and worked in Canada, Sweden, Japan,Uganda, Kenya, Costa Rica, Mexico and the good old US of A, his
experience lead to lecturing atother coffee roasters on production and opportunities for growth.
