Martha BixlerMartha Bixler holds a B.A. degree from Smith College, an Mus.B. from Yale University, and an M.A. from Brooklyn College.She is an instructor in recorder at Teachers College, Columbia University, and Sarah Lawrence College.A former President of the American Recorder Society, she is currently a member of its Board of Directors and editor of its Members' Library Series, which publishes newly-composed or arranged recorder music for members of the Society.Martha Bixler is a free-lance instructor of recorder, harpsichord, piano, early dance, and medieval, renaissance, and baroque performance practice.She has taught at early music workshops in many parts of the United States, Hawaii, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland.She has also been on the early music faculty of Wagner College on Staten Island, the New York College of Music, and the Lenox and Dalton Schools in New York City. Miss Bixler performs with La Gruppetta, a versatile all-woman early music ensemble, and Spectra Musica, a group of vocalists and instrumentalists specializing in early music.She has numerous publications to her credit, and she has recorded with Classic Editions, Folkways Records, Elektra Records, Columbia Records, the Musical Heritage Society, Odyssey Records, Decca Gold Label, and the Music Education Record Company.She has appeared on television on the Today Show and Sesame Street.

Martha Bixler
Martha Bixler holds Bachelor's degrees from Smith College and the Yale University School of Music and a Master's degree from Brooklyn College. She has long been active with the American Recorder Society (ARS). She has been a member of the Board of Directors, an active member of many committees of the Board, and twice president of the Society. She was editor of the Members' Library Editions for ten years. Ms. Bixler has taught recorder, harpsichord, and early dance at Wagner College and recorder at Teachers College and Sarah Lawrence College. Prominent early music ensembles with which she has performed include the New York Pro Musica, Musica Sacra, the Bach Aria Group, and the Berkshire Bach Society. She currently performs with the Viola da Gamba DoJo or New York. She has taught at many early music workshops around this country and in Hawaii, Canada, England and Ireland. She is the editor of a number of arrangements for recorders, and has recorded for Columbia Records and Decca Gold Label. She is a member of the music faculty at Teachers College, Columbia and Sarah Lawrence College. Her personal story of the first fifty years of the American Recorder Society, The American Recorder Society and Me; a Memoir, is forthcoming (September 2014) on the ARS web site.
