RE: Billy Laird
I spoke with him a few years back & he
was very nice, despite my Rebel hat. :-)
"He had some smaller ...
"He had some smaller opportunities, but he really felt like he could work himself out and fit right in over there," Ruston coach Billy Laird said.
"Coach (Sonny) Dykes was gracious enough to have him as a preferred walk-on."
Johhnson is undersized at 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, but he
was Ruston's go-to back in almost every situation, from short yardage to long-run situations.
"When college coaches looked at him on film they thought one thing, but when they went into the locker room they thought something else," Laird
"They didn't realize he
was that small a kid."
said Johnson's power and speed will make him a great asset to the Bulldogs, although Dykes might end up moving him to a different position.
said Dykes has done a great job recruiting his
own players at Ruston.
