ATLANTA, GA (Nov. 10) - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following appointments to lead state agencies: Bill Hutson, appointed Executive Director of the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST); Gordon Joyner, reappointed Executive Director of the Georgia Commission of Equal Opportunity; Karl Counts, reappointed Director of the Charles H. Herty Foundation; Gail Buckner, reappointed Director of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC); Tom Wade, appointed Executive Director of the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA); and Dana Russell, reappointed Commissioner of the Department of Administrative Services (DOAS).
...Bill Hutson - Hutson has been sheriff of Cobb County since 1976.He is a member of the National Sheriffs' Association, where he serves on the executive board and the board of directors.He is also a member of the Georgia Sheriffs' Association and served as president in 1981.In addition, he is a member of the Peace Officers' Association of Georgia and served as president in 1986 and 1987.He
has been recognized by the National Sheriffs' Association
with the 1999 Ferris E. Lucas Sheriff of the Year Award, by the Georgia National Guard
and Reserve with the 1999 Golden Eagle Award, and was the Marietta Daily Journal
1992 Citizen of the Year.Hutson studied Criminal Justice at Kennesaw College and Georgia State University and has attended training at the Southern Police Institute and the National Sheriffs' Institute.He is an active member of the Roswell Street Baptist Church and has served on its board of trustees.
