"This is the worst economic hit I've seen on working families," said Bill Fogarty, executive director for the United Labor Agency of Orange County, one of a dozen nonprofit groups and labor unions that donate money to the hardship fund."It's worse than the Northridge earthquake in terms of the sheer impact on the community."Fogarty has participated in emergency aid for 23 years and helps counsel as many as 70 applicants per day at the union headquarters during the grocery conflict. Many come in asking for help to pay health insurance, car payments or utility bills, he said.
