"When I first visited Samaritan House, I was impressed that effective services were being delivered in a competent, professional way," says Beverly Belle-Isle, who joined the Samaritan House staff as Director of Development last April. "Also, meeting the residents face-to-face made me much more aware of the human toll exacted by HIV/AIDS, both on individuals and on the community at large. I wanted to help."
Beverly has a history of wanting to help. Her past experience includes tenures as executive director of the Lexington Child Abuse Council and director of the YWCA Spouse Abuse Center, both in Lexington, Kentucky, and executive director of the Lincoln Trail Domestic Violence Program in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. During the time she served in these capacities, she also served on the Governor's Commission of the State Child Abuse and Exploitation Board of Kentucky and was awarded the Friend of Children Award by the City of Lexington.
Beverly's recent experience includes five years as a development officer at El Rancho de las Golondrinas, a living history museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where her responsibilities included all aspects of fundraising. Her combination of social service management experience and specialized expertise in development work made her the ideal choice for Samaritan House.
At Samaritan House the Director of Development has a variety of responsibilities: managing the eight-member development team, initiating and overseeing grant proposals, coordinating the agency's system of fundraising, and generating ideas for new funding opportunities. Beverly has brought professionalism, creativity and commitment to the task of handling these diverse functions.
Beverly graduated from the University of Kentucky and completed a Master's degree in Counseling at Spalding University in Louisville. Her abilities also extend into the artistic realm: she is a talented painter specializing in oil pastels.
