The Placer County Health Department released that 1,283 first- through 12th-grade students were immunized last Thursday - 502 by nasal and 781 by injection, said Betty Di Regolo, director of special education and special programs at RUSD. A total of 544 students were 9 years old or younger and will need a second dose of the vaccine, Di Regolo said. "Even though it was a long wait and cold, it was all positive comments from parents," she said.
Last week's clinic drew such a crowd, some students had to be turned away, Di Regolo said. But they will have the first chance at the vaccination during the second clinic in December. For students age 9 and younger who are advised to have two doses, information will be given through the child's school, Di Regolo said.

According to Betty Di Regolo, director of special education and special programs at RUSD, the district has seen pretty steady absences due to possible H1N1 outbreaks across the elementary and middle schools. Parents have reported their children with temperatures, Di Regolo said, and when children reach that point, it's advised for them to stay home.
Di Regolo said the district's clinics are open to first-grade through 12th-grade students only and will include both nasal and injections of the H1N1 vaccine.
Di Regolo said they're hoping approximately half of the students within the district will take advantage of the free vaccinations.

With the cuts, all mandated health services will still be performed, such as vision, hearing and scoliosis screenings and administration of medication, according to Betty Di Regolo, director of special education/special programs.
What may change is the one-on-one interaction students receive with nurses, Di Regolo said.
School sites may have a licensed health care professional on a scheduled basis, Di Regolo said.
