While we were in the exhibit hall, I noticed a table for Jericho Ministries, started by Betsy Hake who had been a SAMS missionary nurse in the little fishing village when we first went to Honduras.
After so many years of not being in touch, it was a blessing to see Betsy
was a lifeline to me when we first went to the mission field 25 years ago. (yes, we're celebrating our 25th year of being missionaries!) We had not had any cross cultural training when we went as John already knew Spanish.
There I was in San Marcos, the middle of nowhere, not able to speak Spanish, not really able to relate to the women of the village as we had almost nothing in common other than the fact that we were all women, John was busy with all the church activities, and I felt so isolated.
spoke English to me and helped me get to know the women of the village and generally encouraged me.
What a blessing she
