Bennett Street Gallery
Bess Coats, known professionally as ccbess, is a native of Montgomery, Alabama, and began her formal training at the Atlanta College of Art.During a summer abroad program in Cortona, Italy, she won "Best of Show" in the group show, Il Mostra.The next year she participated in several group shows in conjunction with the college.She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts there in 1993.
ccbess returned to Montgomery, and in 1994, the Huntingdon College Art Gallery
presented the first one-woman show of her
work.Later that year, Stonehenge Gallery of Montgomery
also honored her
with an acclaimed one-woman exhibition.Bromberg's and Company
subsequently featured her
paintings at an exclusive exhibition in Montgomery.Studio by the Bay in Fairhope has presented her
work in a one-woman show as well.Her
painting, Vineyard's Plenty, was featured in the American Cancer Society's
"A Vintage Affair" live auction.
ccbess signed with Jule's Place in Boston in 1998, and in May of 2001 she
was featured in a two-person show there.Her
paintings are also shown in New York.She
continues to live in Montgomery and work in her
private studio while participating in gallery and museum-juried shows across the southeast.
