Born in Boston, Mr. Kaplan attended Boston University.In 1948, Mr. Kaplan and his brother Ralph founded Kappy's Liquors, which grew to several stores throughout Greater Boston.
A 50-year member of the Hammatt-Ocean Lodge of Masons, he was awarded the Joseph Warren Medal for distinguished service.Mr. Kaplan was the chief photographer for the Shriners Hospital for Children.
He was named the Beverage Industry Division's "Man of the Year" in 1997.
Mr. Kaplan leaves his wife, Miriam (Cohen); a son, Alan R. of Salem; two daughters, Marlene Goldberg and Harryette Katzen, both of Marblehead; his brother, Ralph of Swampscott; and three grandchildren.
