The Junior League of Bell County: History

The Junior League of Bell County began as a Service League in Temple Texas, conceived by the 1976 Womens City Federation Club President, Bernadette Cuba and began as an organization of the Womens City Federation.
With the aid of other City Federation Members, Mrs. Cuba formulated the concept for a volunteer group serving to better the community. The original Charter Members adopted the name "Service League", as well as, a set of provisional bylaws. The Charter Members were: Rebecca Brown, Mary Burrough, Charlynn Casey, Linda Chupik, Mary Clawson, Bernadette Cuba, Martha Daniel, Ann DeLany, Jean Jay, Marlene Jones, Carol Langsjoen, Betty Prescott, Greneta Scott, Sarah Schulz, Donna Williams and Sunny Wilson.

In May 1976, The Service League of Temple, Inc., was organized by Bernadette Cuba, then president of the City Federation of Women's Club.The purpose of the 16- member group was to benefit the community. During the next 12 years, The Service League grew to 200+ members.In 1985, the leadership of The Service League decided the organization needed to look beyond the scope of its current services to find ways to make an even greater impact on the community. In 1986, The Service League voted to pursue affiliation with the Association of Junior Leagues, Inc.
