See more When Belen Fernandez, director of library services of Blackmore Library, decided that her library needed to entice students to use library services for research, she knew she needed a partner to help. She looked to her EBSCO representative, with whom she'd been working for more than 18 years in two different library jobs, to help her begin making the necessary changes. In order to evolve, Blackmore Library first needed to fine-tune the fundamentals. Valuable resources were being expended on traditional repetitive tasks, so Fernandez used EBSCO's management solutions to streamline workflows and free up more staff time. "You have to have your fundamental functions in working order in order to really innovate going forward," says Fernandez. Using EBSCONET® collection management reports Fernandez was able to better evaluate her collection and budget options. EBSCO also provided online tools and support services to improve claiming and ordering processes. When the library staff were able to see more clearly what periodicals were coming into the library and what was missing, they were able to budget more effectively. Additionally, using products such as EBSCO A-to-Z® and EBSCONET® ERM Essentials® has helped Blackmore Library improve workflow in their technical services area, spending less time struggling with linking issues allows time to provide better exposure to all purchased e-resources. Every step of the way, EBSCO's customer service team was available for the librarians when they needed help with technical issues or had simple questions about periodicals, "I never have to worry about waiting two or three days to be called back, which is a challenge with some vendors," Fernandez explains. The librarians at Capital University have worked hard to make customer service a priority; "the students are the reason the lights come on," says Fernandez. With EBSCO's help, library staff can get back to what's really important: allowing their staff to continually improve their library and help their patrons become better researchers. Fernandez says, "If I can purchase a product like ERM Essentials or A-to-Z, which improves the workflow in our technical services area-that frees up my staff to dream big and accomplish great things."
