Picking up the phone and making a call isn’t the only thing Becky Stogner will do.
It’s where she will begin after being named executive director of the West Texas A&M University Alumni Association.
The Missouri Baptist University graduate said she wants to focus the attention of her office to contacting alumni and reaching out to them.
“We’re proud of all of our alumni and want to keep in touch. We want to know what they’re doing,†she said.
...
I thought there were a lot of interesting things going on,†Becky said.
She researched the university and learned some about its history, specifically what students used to do on campus.
“I’m excited to learn the history from the people who experienced it,†she said.
Stogner spent the past five years as director of annual giving for the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center.
While there, she was responsible for the daily activities, including managing the department budget and funding strategies, and providing volunteer support.
Becky feels this experience will definitely help her with the alumni association because she will be asked to develop a closer relationship between alumni and the university.
“It’s about building relationships,†she said of her experience at the cancer center.
“We just want to know how to reach them, a lot about them. When we reach them, that gives them a chance to reach out to their school.â€
Becky added she felt her experience will help her greatly in her new endeavor.
“I think a lot of people just fall into development. It was something I enjoyed,†she said. “I think I bring an objectivity and an opportunity with me as the alumni association strengthens its ties with the university.â€
Stogner also wants to broaden the alumni association’s reach to other communities throughout Texas and the country. She plans to begin alumni chapters in cities such as Austin, Dallas and Houston.
Becky has some lofty goals she wants to achieve, but knows it starts with one.
“Our goal in the next year is to reach out to as many alumni as we can,†she said. “I want to keep the passion of their school alive 10 or 20 years down the road.â€
