Becky Gleason, Art Instructor
Becky Gleason is a self-taught artist who at a very young age knew that creating art was going to be her passion. A native Minnesotan, Becky has a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications from the University of Minnesota. She moved to Chicago in 1984 and developed her own hand painted furniture and home accessories business, which included selling to Hotels and Boutiques nationwide. Since 1994, she has focused on painting on canvas and paints on a commission basis. Becky's style of painting ranges from Impressionism to Realism. Her talent for recognizing beauty in what seems to be all places and times feeds her creativity and self-expression. Favorite themes include women and their empowerment and communication, classic landscapes, and views of gracious living and beautiful surroundings. As a collector of inspirational wisdom and images, she often incorporates words, thoughts and symbolism into her work as part of her creative expression. Becky believes that through consistent observation and practice, she has developed her own style of art. Her goal is to "create with joy," and tap into the creative stream of consciousness that allows artists to feel suspended in time and place as they create their art. Becky is dedicated to serving a long list of civic organizations by donating her artwork for fundraising purposes, including The Field Museum of Chicago, Junior league of Chicago, Chicago Abused Women and Children Coalition and the Illinois Children's Aid Society. Having moved to North Carolina in 2003, Becky has continued to support The Dove House, Hope at the Point, Iredell County Children's Home and the National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina by donating her works for auction. She loves teaching for Explore at our Cornelius location and maintains a studio at ArtWorks on Main in Mooresville, North Carolina.
Becky Gleason, a self-taught artist, is well accomplished in a variety of media. Her work takes on expression in moments she interprets as meaningful, intriguing and beautiful. Her most recent focus is classic themes in oil and acrylic on canvas. Becky's portfolio of work includes fine handpainting on furniture for residential interiors as well as for professional design/restoration companies. Each piece, new or antique, is designed to express the personality she is able to discover. She is also accomplished in mural painting. A favorite commission was painting a client's entire dining room ceiling with blue sky breaking through sun drenched storm clouds, using layer after layer of hues. She's also created "PARIS POTS" as noted in Chicago Home and Garden Magazine. These pots combine her signature gold lettering, black and ivory checkerboard pattern with handwritten French Poetry. Becky believes that through consistent observation and practice she has developed her own unique style of art. Her goal is to "create with joy" and to tap into the creative stream of consciousness that allows artists to feel suspended in time and place as they create their art.
